Kansas, Missouri City Testing Guide

Kansas City is the largest city in the state of Missouri and includes Jackson, Clay, Cass and Platte counties. Serving as the anchor city of Kansas City Metropolitan Area, Kansas is the second largest metropolitan area next to Wichita. The district was initially founded as the “Town of Kansas” and was a strategic battleground during the Civil War. The city has a trademark with its contributions to jazz and blues music and barbecue specialty.

The neighborhood plan of the city is organized into a system of more than 240 neighborhoods, some of which have emerged as independent cities or major sites for events. The center of the city is known as Downtown. Urban districts near Downtown includes historic neighborhoods such as Ivanhoe, Westport, Hyde Park, Squire Park, the 18th and Vine Historic District, the Crossroads Arts District, Quality Hill, Pendleton Heights, the West Bottoms and the River Market.

Downtown Kansas is bordered by the Missouri River on the north, the 31st Street on the south, the Bruce R. Watkins Drive on the east and I-35 on the west. Downtown Kansas is not only home to many business establishments like restaurants and boutique shops but is also a literary, visual arts and a bohemian culture hub. It is also home to the famous Hallmark Company. The Country Club Plaza or more commonly referred to as “the Plaza” is Kansas City’s upscale shopping and entertainment district. It also has an abundant number of modern high-rise condominiums and apartments. The neighborhoods in Sunset Hill and Brookside are also associated with the Country Club District. Union Station is also a famous Kansas City neighborhood, being the home of the Science City and Amtrak facility.
