Miami is an urban global city located in the southeastern area of Florida. It is also the county seat of Miami-Dade County and the most densely inhabited county in Florida. • The heart of the city of Miami is Downtown Miami, which is technically the eastern part of the city. It is also South Florida’s central business district, where several major banks and financial offices, cultural and tourist attractions and high-rise residential buildings are located. The Downtown includes the Brickell, Virginia Key, Watson Island and port of Miami areas.
• Miami’s South area includes the Coral Way and Coconut Grove areas. The Coral Way is known for its historic residential neighborhood that connects the Downtown with Coral Gables. The Coconut Grove is the home of Miami’s City Hall, the CocoWalk and numerous nightspots, restaurants and shops. The area is host to several historic attractions like parks and gardens, prestigious private schools, historic homes and estates.
• West Miami is home to many traditional immigrant neighborhoods and includes areas such as Little Havana, West Fagler and Flagami. It was predominantly a Jewish neighborhood but is now a settlement for many Central American and Cuban immigrants. The west central Allpattah is an area with multicultural ethnicities.
• The north side of Miami consists of the Midtown district, which is an area with diverse cultures like West Indians and Hispanics. The Edgewater and Wynwood neighborhoods contain many high-rise uptown residents. Affluent residential areas are located in the northeastern part, the Midtown area, the Design District and the Upper East Side. This area also has several notable African-American and Caribbean communities like little Haiti, Overtown and the Liberty City.
