Government Substance Abuse Organizations

The government also plays a significant role in helping people pursue a drug- free environment. In the United States, there about 20 million people who work in the government and most of them are assigned in some organizations that help combat the rampant issue of drug abuse among teens and adults.

Government organizations on drug and substance abuse are basically administrative parts of the government. They are regulated and funded by the government to perform specific functions such as promulgating laws to reduce drug trafficking and standardize the sale of prescription drugs; generating programs, promoting relevant advocacies, and extending supports to smaller units in the community that also help control drug addiction in the society. Unlike the private sector, they do not work independently yet base their effort according to government mandates. For instance, in order to monitor the prevalence of drug abuse among teens and adults, there are specific governmental organizations that perform monthly or annual surveys at schools. Furthermore, through government mandate, some organizations are also task to administer drug testing in schools, workplace, and for forensic investigations. The data gathered will then be used as bases for drug abuse related studies and researches, latest updates, and for judiciary purposes.
