Habits You Need to Break to Help Relieve Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain
Chronic musculoskeletal pain or CMP happens when the body feels overused and could not recover. Those who are experiencing CMP have a difficult time figuring out the main cause of pain. Usually, pain comes from the bones, joints, muscles, and other parts of the body. This is often caused by strenuous activities mixed with bad eating habits and an unhealthy lifestyle.
Often times, it is the bad habits that could wear out our body. We keep pushing our limits without allowing our body to recover properly. It is found that a person suffering from CMP that smokes experienced more problems at work, their social relationships, mood, sleep, and the overall quality of life compared to those suffering from CMP who did not smoke.
- Late nights – sleep problems may come by when you are suffering from CMP. In this case, consult your doctor for any necessary medication that could help alleviate the pain so you can start getting quality. Also, avoid staying up late if you can. Make sure that you are asleep by 11 or 12 the latest. The body usually recovers better when you sleep before midnight, because this is the time the body knows you are in deep sleep; therefore releasing hormones to repair the body.
- Excess weight – research found that those who are overweight experience more pain when suffering from CMP. Keeping your weight at a minimal will help relieve pain. Consult your doctor about the best diet plan to ease pain.
- Stress – anyone experiencing pain and restlessness have higher levels of stress, which can also worsen the pain. Together with proper diet, exercise, and medication, one can get into meditation class or yoga to practice calming techniques to lower stress levels.
You can recover from CMP if you religiously follow your doctor’s advice and break the habits that worsen pain. A healthy lifestyle is often recommended to relive CMP, decrease your chances of getting other illnesses, and to improve your overall quality of life.
