Top 8 States in USA with Prescription Drug Addiction Problem
The USA population is beset by a lot of problems, one of which is the marijuana abuse. According to drug statistics, a lot of its states are plagued with traces of drug abuse. These are the top 8 (in no particular order):
Alaska. Besides being near the Canadian border, Alaska is also quite isolated from the rest of the U.S. states. It has become one of the main avenues for transshipments of illegal drugs and other controlled substances. Cocaine and methamphetamine are two of the most common substances delivered in this state.
California. There is such a diverse culture in California, which, unfortunately, also invites the rising trend of marijuana abuse. Moreover, heroin and cocaine are being smuggled from Mexico and consumed by the USA population through California. The government has imposed strict regulations for those who would pass through ports of entry in this state; however, traffickers have learned to devise ways, going through tunnels or bringing in vehicles with hidden compartments just to deliver illegal drugs to various consumers in the country.
Delaware. This state has one of the most traveled highways all over the United States. The Interstate 95 runs through Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Miami. Because of its strategic location as well as nearness to notorious illegal drugs rings, it has been beset by several trafficking organizations.
Florida. According to drug statistics, the state of Florida is a favorite among international traffickers and money launders, simply because of the major thoroughfares that make up the state. Of course, it has one of the longest coastlines, which then provide unlimited access for drug traffickers selling and distributing illegal drugs to other states in the United States. It’s also very easy for them to hide just in case they are being detected by the U.S. government, by moving to Bahamas, located near Florida.
Louisiana. There are a variety of reasons why Louisiana has a lot of people suffering from drug addiction. It can be because of Gulf of Mexico, one of the biggest seas in the world and which forms part of the state. The coastline is perfect for smuggling through the sea. You also have the Mississippi River and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, which is very near the Gulf of Mexico and the coasts near Texas and the borders of Mexico.
Maryland. The illegal drugs that are delivered to New York City pass through Baltimore. It’s no wonder therefore that marijuana abuse in Maryland is just as rampant as that in New York City. The seaport, moreover, adds to the problem as international smugglers can discreetly ship the goods through this area.
Nevada. Nevada is very close to California, which explains the reason why illegal drugs such as methamphetamine and cocaine are very popular among the USA population living here. The problem is getting worse, as reflected by the increasing mortality rate due to diverted medicines.
New Mexico. A huge portion of this state is either desert or isolated footpaths, ranches, roads, and trails. It’s very easy for drug traffickers to run against law enforcers to elude arrest.
