For the naysayers and the radical Bible-thumpers who insist that alcohol is the drink of sinners, the side effects of alcohol are no laughing matter. While it is true that alcohol does have a number of side effects that can kill you if you drink eight glasses of it every day instead of water, we cannot be gloomy about it all the time, can we? After all, is it not common practice to “bring out the bubbly” whenever something good happens?

But we have to admit that there are side effects to drinking alcohol that we may find strange or even worth a giggle. Here are some of them.

Alcohol Can Land You in Wedded Bliss

Getting into a state of marital bliss – or marital hell, however you may find it – may in some cases be a side effect of alcohol consumption. For one, you could have messed with someone’s daughter and ended up saying “I do” with a shotgun pointed at your direction. Shotgun weddings still happen in some parts of the world, even in a progressive country such as the United States.

But there are some cases where the element of forcefulness from a third party is absent. It is possible that when you asked your significant other to marry you, you have always had the idea of getting married to your partner at the back of your head but just could not find the guts to propose. One merry side effect of alcohol is that it makes you brave enough to do the impossible.

In some instances, however, the alcohol side effect that came to rule the situation is impulsiveness. So intoxicated were the couple and in the fit of euphoria, they just decided to get married. That is why they say you should not get too drunk while you are in Vegas – you could end up either penniless or wedded. If you do not believe that, you can always ask Britney Spears.

Alcohol Can Make You an Honest Person

As Latin speakers often say, “In vino veritas.” There is something about alcohol that makes you want to come clean about something terrible that you have done, even if the offense was committed some twenty or so years ago. It depends on whoever is looking at it, but this could be either a beneficial or a harmful side effect of drinking alcohol.

The confession can be done in tears or with laughter, but the confession will always be done without a second thought. So, if you want to fish the truth out of someone, getting him or her drunk first will do the trick.

Alcohol Can Earn You a Bit of Cash

It is a common story that when you spend the night with a hooker, you may wake up in your bed with nothing else but the clothes that you took off before jumping into the sheets. Everyone will assume that it was the hooker who took all your money.

However, if you find yourself one morning: 1) in a strange bed; 2) reeking of alcohol and sex; 3) with a lot more money than you thought you had in your pocket; and 4) with absolutely no memory of what had happened the previous night, should you really stop to wonder?
