Side Effects of Smoking You May Not Know About
On every pack of cigarettes that you will see in a store or lay your hands on, you will always find this label stuck on it that says something like this: “Government warning: Smoking has serious side effects that can kill you.”
All of us know that the long-term smoking of tobacco and such can lead to some deadly side effects, such as turning our lungs into congealed tar. We have all been shocked into this awareness by the well-meaning public service bulletins released by the government or overenthusiastic medical experts. Nonetheless, there may be some side effects of smoking that these personages may not be telling you.
For one…
Smoking Can Turn You into a Hobbit
Have you ever read The Lord of the Rings? Or at least watched the movie trilogy that Peter Jackson made out of it? Then you probably should know that one side effect of smoking that you can end up with is becoming a hobbit.
Hobbits are little people who love to take all sorts of pleasures in life. They eat five times a day, drink as much ale as they want, and smoke their beloved pipeweed. Since smoking can decrease the density of the bones, it is possible for a smoker to turn into a hobbit of sorts.
Smoking Can Turn You into a Wizard
Again, this is a reference to The Lord of the Rings, where one of the main characters is Gandalf the Gray, the wise wizard whose power and mental faculties were able to help rid the world of the evil of Mordor.
Gandalf spent many sleepless nights discerning the truth of the One Ring. But since he liked spending free time dragging on his pipe, the smoking may have helped him withstand the fatigue and weariness of endless nights spent pouring over crumbling scrolls in dusty libraries. True enough, one of the short-term side effects of smoking is alertness and wakefulness.
Smoking Can Turn You into a Person of Logic
Sherlock Holmes is notorious for a lot of things: his sharp deductive reasoning, his lack of regard for the law, and his habit of smoking cigarettes. He is even addicted to morphine and cocaine.
Just like what was said about Gandalf above, Detective Holmes’ work requires a lot of brainpower and the stamina to stay awake and alert through nights of rigorous activity. Again, alertness and wakefulness is one useful side effect of smoking, even if it is a short-term one only.
Smoking Can Make You Hot and Cool at the Same Time
Let us face it. The Marlboro Man had many admirers in his time because he looked so hot. His rugged cowboy manliness, the masterful way he handled his horses, the subdued power you can sense in him – these traits in a way made him a sex symbol and had the ladies swoon over him.
At the same time, smoking can also make you cool. Menthol in cigarettes cools the mouth, does it not?

If you want to show the real side affects of smoking maybe you should look at these pictures that are displayed on cigarette packs in Australia. Some are terrible to look at but all are caused by smoking.
