10 Signs and Symptoms of Anemia

Anemia is, essentially, what happens when the body is starved for oxygen. This occurs because the blood is lacking either a sufficient amount of red blood cells or the appropriate levels of hemoglobin. While it can be life-threatening, there are many treatments available for those suffering from anemia, but that is futile if you do not even know you have it. Here are ten of the most common symptoms of anemia to watch out for:

Pale

A lot of the time, those with anemia look especially pale as though the blood has been drained from their face.

Shallow breathing

Many people with anemia have trouble catching their breath. This includes shallow breathing and even rapid breathing. It all goes back to your body attempting to get oxygen anyway it knows how.

Fatigue

It is understandable that someone with anemia would feel especially tired all of the time. Without enough oxygen, it is hard to function normally. Being tired all of the time is a signal that your body is not getting what it needs.

Low Blood Pressure

It can be difficult to know you have this without a visit to the doctor but low blood pressure is yet another sign of anemia.

Chest Pains

In some cases of anemia that are more severe, chest pains may be a symptom. If you notice pain in your chest along with some of these other symptoms, visit your doctor as soon as possible.

Rapid Heartbeat

It is common for many anemia sufferers to have a heartbeat that is faster than normal. This is especially the case during any sort of exertion or exercise.

Dizziness

A lot of the time, those with anemia will be dizzy, especially when getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position. They can also just become dizzy for no reason at all.

Insomnia

An inability to fall asleep or repeatedly waking up throughout the night can also be a sign of anemia. Again, it depends on your body and what other symptoms you are presenting.

Inability to Concentrate

Without adequate oxygen levels, the functioning of your body suffers. This includes the functioning of your brain. If you have trouble concentrating along with a few other symptoms listed here, you very well may have anemia.

Leg Cramps

Again, due to the lack of oxygen in your blood, the legs may cramp up and feel painful in those who have anemia.

Now this is just a small list of symptoms. Know that there are many other identifying factors that can signal you have this condition.Likewise, know that there are several different kinds of anemia from which you can suffer-all which carry different symptoms. If you seriously think you may have this condition, consult your doctor immediately.
