What is JWH-018? Why is it Dangerous? What do Parents Need to Know?

JWH-018 is known as a chemical with analgesic properties thus it is often described as a pain-killer. It was actually named after the initials of its proponent John W. Huffman. It is a cannabinoid agonist for the receptors tagged as CB1 and CB2 and comes from the family of naphthoylindoles. The JWH-018 can be consumed orally by individuals at a dose of around 3 mg to 20 mg. However, if the substance needs to be smoked, then the dosage should be lowered.

JWH-018 is actually brown in color and is lumpy, dry and somewhat sticky in nature. When it is still raw, the compound is dense. The denser the compound, the darker it can get. When it goes through certain processes such as crystallization, its appearance will definitely change. This raises confusion as to the purity and actual appearance of the JWH-018.

Synthetic Marijuana Testing

The Effects of JWH-018

There have been studies or press releases that suggest that the compound JWH-018 is the primary ingredient in a legal herbal blend known as Spice Gold. Although this is a legal herbal blend, its effects is said to be similar to marijuana. In fact, the substance is already tagged as a synthetic marijuana version of this drug. Though these speculations seem to spread, its reality is not proven by science yet.

JWH-018 is also said to produce similar effects to that of THC or tetrahydrocannabinol. This is a substance that produces mild to moderate analgesic effects. The two differs however depending on what happens after these substances are smoked by an individual. In JWH-018, the peak results are experienced at an instant. In THC, the effects are delayed for around 10 to 15 minutes.

However, before you buy JWH-018, you should know more about its real effects in an individual. Its effects are mainly categorized as similar to cannabis. Some side effects include anxiety, nausea, hallucinations, paranoia and tachycardia. These effects become more prominent when taken in high doses.

What Parents Should Know about JWH-018

Parents may not be fully aware of the real effects of JWH-018 in their children. Here are some facts that every parent should know when it comes to this component. This is despite the fact that the substance is said to be legal in some parts of the US including Arizona.

  1. Blends of JWH-018 may differ from one manufacturer to another. Manufacturers list the herbal ingredients found inside their products. The problem is they do not specify how much of the JWH-018 compound is present in a blend. Parents must be warned about this as too much of the compound may bring about greater side effects.
  2. JWH-018 should not be taken with alcohol. Parents should be wary if their children attend parties where alcohol and smoking may be a usual part of the affair. JWH-018 may be offered during the occasion. And with a glass of wine, smoking the blend may result to severe headaches that can be felt at the base of the skull. This can last for several hours and is worse than any type of hangover.
  3. JWH-018 blends can have harsh effects on the respiratory system. The lungs may experience too much pain while the throat may also be burned by the substance.

JWH-018 is supposed to be taken like a pain reliever at the right dosage. Taking it in excess will cause all the dangers presented above. Parents, as well as young ones, must be warned about this.

The scientists who created and tested jwh-018 said anyone who uses the compound is an idiot. Everyone using or thinking about using jwh-018 should listen to them. A good friend of mine is back in a mental health facility because of k2 use.

If you want the “marijuana high”, you are seriously better off just smoking the real thing.

Marijuana was a plant grown for a purpose. A medical purpose. Go suffer a traumatic head injury, have your brain removed, shoved back in and see who you are. You won’t remember a dam thing. Go smoke some weed and see how it makes everything start working again. Then when you get put on probation and can’t smoke it, see how pissy it makes you and how much pain there is to hate. I then got ahold of that judgement day first. It helped alot. Then I got k2. If you can’t smoke weed, you might as well get some jwh-018. It is something else that should be used for medical reasons. Put a label on it with directions and maybe there will be less problems. Use your head and quit with the negative bulls**t. It will effect everybody differently. Nobody is the same as somebody else!

I am a mother of a 16 yr old son who overdosed Monday night on this stuff. He smoked a “home grown” version of Damiana which he reports was also treated with 018, as well as K3. He experienced all the negative side effects that are mentioned throughout this string. ALL of them. In addition to those, he also had dilated pupils for 50 hours after the episode. I was actually on here to find out if the spasms (which looked like seizures to me) came from the brain or just in the bloodstream and wondered if we needed to get him a brain scan to see if there is any long term effect we should look for. As far as I can see, no one knows about long term effects because it’s new. I do believe that had my son been with “friends” that night instead of in his parents’ home and care, he could have died. He had the vomiting, hallucinations, seizures, eyes rolling backwards, incoherent speech, inability to understand us, out of body experience, loss of muscle control, extreme fear, paranoia really, and mouth so dry his tongue refused to work right. We are now committed to trying to spread the word about how dangerous this legal alternative to pot is. I say it should not be used at all.

Okay guy this is no joke! Yesterday I have been smoking K2 strawberry and Black Mamba for a month now usually like 10 grams a day. Well, earlier I got a bag of strawberry and packed a bowl and when I put the bowl to my mouth before even lighting it I smelled the K2 and immediately had a stroke, seizure and heart attack all at the same time. I fell off of the ladder I had been sitting on into a wading pool full of radios, toaster ovens and power tools all plugged into a socket. Well needless to say I was fine but after I got up I went into the house and I tripped on my little brother’s toy truck and broke my neck on my dog, breaking his back at the same time. Now we’re both dead because I was an idiot and decided to smoke K2!!! I should have just kept taking oxycontin, coke, pot, alcohol enemas, heroin and the occasional crack rock. I could have been somebody! Don’t let this happen to you or your friends! Take it from me because I’m dead.

Oh yeah, a little side note. After I died my family went on a terrorist rampage and killed my entire town and then themselves. Now we’re all stuck in hell having sex with each other non-stop for eternity.

Timmy: Way too funny! Nothing like sarcasm to make me smile!

    MEH:”
“you’d have to be an idiot to ingest a chemical which was never designed for human consumption.” Admittedly, -018 is a chemical. Not designed for human consumption? Maybe a different story. Let’s see what else is made of chemicals: xanax, almost all or all antidepressants, sleep meds, pain killers all the way down to Ibuprophen and such, hell…might as well say all prescription meds and most over the counter ones too. AND…take a look at what is put into what you eat. Shit, the end of the ingredients in a box of cereal can hardly be pronounced. What makes these “designed for human consumption?” I’ll tell ya. The pharmacutical and chemical companies, which produce their own studies and present them to the FDA (another joke). If the pharm and chem companies were to realize they could make a buck, all of a sudden it’d be OK to consume it and it would be mass marketed. They would provide the FDA with their results, tests usually funded by the federal gov’t, then lobby congress to legalize it. They don’t want MJ legalized because we could grow it in our own back yards and they wouldn’t be able to show profits to the shareholders. Take a look at your own life and what you really put into your body before you call anyone stupid!!!!!

    @ TimmyCostigan…WIN!

@ Laurie…how did your 16 year old overdose? …if your dumb enough to not do your own research before trying something as such…if your dumb enough to go ape shit and smoke it all cause you don’t feel it right off…then your ass needs to buckle up and enjoy the ride. make the bed you sleep in.

Also Laurie, you, might want to reconsider who your 16 year old son hangs out with, you might want to talk to him about being more responsible in his own decision making, and you might want to take a step back. Just because your kid goes and does something stupid, doesn’t mean you get to erect an army of followers and do something about it. You doing anything about world hunger? AIDS? You doing anything to mass produce jobs? If you answered no to any of these, step down…calm down…hell, have some K2. Please consume responsibly.

Laurie, that sucks for your son, but I feel you. This stuff is not good at all! I was told by my boyfriend this last summer what it was and trusted him to try it with him. I live and work in a military community so my previous drug habit of smoking marijuana is not something I can partake in anymore. So I tried Spice and I loved it. The effects doesn’t hit you right away and it is EXTREAMLY easy to overdose on it. I have overdosed many many many times and no time is ever fun. Although I will admit my subconscious did bring up some interesting personal insights that were helpful to my life, the stuff regardless is horrible. Ok, now if you use it every once in a while, you are probably safe. But if you are a previous pot head looking for that one thing to get you through the week, spice looks great…but you WILL get addicted, if you use it as much as I do and most people I know, do. It is highly addictive unlike Weed, and I wish that Weed were legal because that is what I would be smoking and I would still be just fine, but it’s not, and I’m on spice and now addicted, have a huge problem trying to quit, it takes up all of my money and the high doesn’t last as long. Try as i might to get off of it, I can’t. Now they have taken JWH-018 out of the products and while I don’t overdose anymore or get extremely paranoid it takes more of it to get me high which costs more money and more smoke in my lungs. And that’s another thing. I am not a tobacco smoker for a reason, I like my lungs…Weed never did this to me, but with Spice every day several times a day I cough up black mucus..BLACK! Wonder what my lungs look like now. My voice is raspy and I’ve only been smoking it since June 2010. Cigarette smokers don’t even have that kind of issues right after they start smoking. Why in holy hell this stuff was legal, I will never know. It is illegal now, but of course scientists have found new compounds that probably harm our bodies more and keep us addicted to this growing epidemic called Spice. Our government needs to seriously take their money grubbing heads out of their ass’s and make all forms of spice and the compounds used to create the “high” we are all looking for, make it illegal and then make Marijuana legal for RECREATIONAL USE…our government can make some money on that crop as well as the crop of Hemp which could turn our economic and environmental issues around. Why the hell does this kind of stuff gain legal status when there is still so much we don’t know about it, when a great plant like Marijuana that we have spent years studying and SMOKING is illegal. What the hell is wrong with this world?

Long time weed smoker. Smoked spice for a while… was fine… smoked the pure jwh… instantly had an out of body experience, couldn’t feel my legs… walk/ stumbled to the kitchen and BAM! Felt like I got shot in the head and my right ear stopped working and the right side of my head felt like it was the size of a basketball. I left it alone for a while… started getting drug tested recently. So I went back to K2 blonde and strawberry. The other night I smoked a few joints (strawberry) over a long period of time..felt fine. When I woke up the next day.. my right side of my body was numb. My right eye was blurry and it was kind of hard to talk. It was hard to walk too because my right leg was numb. Also the right side of my face was numb. Its been over 24 hours now. I’m still numb and having vision problems. I’m pretty sure I had a mini stroke. Not to say this will happen to everyone… but obviously it can happen. I know people that smoke it all the time and are fine… but everyone reacts differently. I guess ill just invest in an herbal cleanser and go back to weed. I hope this shit isn’t permanent.

A very small subset do experience full blown psychedelic experiences although I would rather call them delusions as the user often recalls not knowing the visuals were fake… hence, delusions. Plus, the mindful and emotional insight of traditional psychedelics is void. My friend’s experience is posted last here. Very scary incident.

It’s either excessively high ‘analogue’ concentration [jwh-xxx], excessive sensitivity of the receptor, or simply another chemical all together that causes the effect.

Concentration issue is unlikely. During this event, I and my gf along with her friend stepped outside for a J of Spike Max [rainbow package]. This was the original, before ban, with jwh-018 and others. The friend only took two puffs and gf and I finished. She seemed to zone out so we let her chill.

Excessive sensitivity is a possibility. Genetic differences could easily account for such a small number of cases, and we know that cannabis which is also a psychedelic technically can cause mild hallucinations in high amounts of premo stuff. Take Neville’s Haze or Barney Farm’s LSD for instance. However, they’re a stark difference between typical weed visuals and what this friend experienced which leads me to believe that another chemical causes the action.

It could very well be a combination of the two… rather than jwh, it could be a metabolite produced during its metabolism, and THAT metabolite has an exceptionally low dissociate factor from the receptor.

who knows, but one thing for sure is that with a small subset, certain spice products under certain conditions can cause PCP-like hallucinations.

Now for the story, after two puffs and zoning out. She fell against a column and hung on it. Cool… then starts slowly falling off porch but not being cute… can’t seem to move well. Starts screaming. I drop J and pick her up. She lays on ground as gf and I are a lil freaked. Then she starts moaning like having an orgasm. Then crawls between my legs and chases my dog around [good thing she didn't get her hands on her]. I pick her up now a lil pissed and try to calm her. She starts screaming me name repeatedly while still moaning [real mindf*ck here]… lips start turning blue from screaming so much.. she’s suffocating herself by screaming. I’m restraining her now as she’s fighting back. I get gf to call 911 for EMTs as I’m concerned about an overdose [though I know logically that shouldn't happen, but i've been there before]. She finally calms several minutes later and start collapsing. Gf and I are smackin her a lil tryin to wake her.. she’s out of it. She finally comes back to reality, and now damage control. I call the police back tryin to call off EMTs. I get them off, but local PD shows up. Luckily it was a family friend officer, it was spice so no smell worries, and I had the clever idea of sayin her bf just left her and she went spastic so I thought she was having a seizure of sorts. We make it through and she’s shook up for days just as gf and I are.

**********What the girl said she experienced*********** After 2nd puff. She said things slowed down, started turning cartoony [sounded like PCP]. then she became a tiger….. and she was just to burst out of the tiger [sounds like DMT]… then her head was floating on top of her body and spinning uncontrollably. She thought hitting her head on the column would make it stop. The porch dropped off into a huge canyon, and my dog was like a cyborg dinosaur. She began screaming my name because I was the only thing she could recognize and her mind got stuck on that track [the familiar mindloop common in regular psychedelics]. I looked normal while everything else was a cartoon.

That’s all she really remembered… she said there was so much more but she can’t pinpoint well.

i still smoked spice on rare occasions when out of green.. but lettucebeecereal… stick to real grass to avoid health/mental issues. Last random note, don’t f*ckin touch DXM/couch syrup. fun short term.. can become a crazy addiction… almost daily for 10months. it stopped depression but brought on psychosis. crazy since Seroquel works in a “SIMILAR, not same” fashion. oh well, green treats my schizoaffective or rapid cycle bipolar… whichever it really is… great. I may even lower my antidepressant dosage.

Well, yeah for the most part, these people are right about herbal spice being way too strong–but i think the thing that screws with your mind is–YOU DON’T REALLY KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN IN 5 YEARS FROM SOMKING THIS CRAP–MAYBE YOUR DICK WILL TURN BLACK AND FALL OFF i dunno–but i decided to quit smoking weed because of the price and sketchy personalities that come along with it–so went to the local head shop bought a gram of some locally made herb called red eye or something like that–well i smoked a pin joint (4 or 5 small hits) i could feel something coming on after about 10 minutes i figured that was about it and took two small bong hits–well, thats when i felt like i took some weak blotter acid. felt clear headed but extremely uncomfortable which never experienced with weed—now i have smoked dank and had a mild panic attack –but my head was all cloudy and dreamy–this stuff made you alert and paranoid which are two things that shouldn’t combine–anyway i took the dog for a 1 hour walk and came back and still felt slightly wigged out—anyway i threw the rest of it out–because my mind kept saying “what is you smoked is UNKNOWN because i dont know if it 018 or psycotropic herbs—but it was UNCOOL because i did smoke just 3 hits and my balls almost went back in my stomach!
DON’T SMOKE THIS STUFF UNLESS YOU WANT WIGG OUT AND STAND IN ONE PLACE FOR 2 HOURS. anyway–the next day i scraped some resin out of my bong (different bong) and when i smoked the resin– that uneasy feeling started coming back like a flash back or somthing–that’s when i came on here and was like
“oh no what did i smoke?” there are other boards i have been on and like 75 PERCENT OF the people wigged out at some point off of this stuff. I bet we will find out later this stuff is worse than crack–anyway look at bathsalts–they snort that stuff and i heard it makes meth look like vitamins–to hell with that!!! some guy snorted that shit and was naked on the expressway shooting at cars because he thought they were terrorists!!
what is wrong with these new LEGAL drugs!!????

JWH- Does NOT BURN your lungs or throat , what people put it on and smoke do to the fire they use , is what is hot and could burn a throat . This “burn” is equal to the feeling of tobacco smoke or any smoke inhaled . Advice would be use less random things if you must smoke the JWH on top of something else . Again you do not have to Smoke JWH at all , if digested its a safe as any over the counter piece of candy . Candy could be worse for you though . Hope That Help . Take Care . God Bless

  • Jay Miro

Again, these posts are for people Who Do Smoke Pot and are curious about JWH . Depending on what kind of JWH its a fine substitute depending on what kind of access you have in your state to different types of pot or mj. gl
